Folding-arm awnings for the Eldoraigne patio and braai area

Shade on demand over the terrace, no posts and no permanent roof — retracting flush into a cassette when you want the winter sun back.

An Eldoraigne patio, shaded through summer and open again by winter.

Spring-tensioned folding arms carry a fabric canopy out over the patio or deck and retract it flush against the wall when you don’t need it — no posts eating into the braai space, no interrupted view, and unlike a fixed roof, the seasonal argument works in your favour: shade in summer, welcome winter sun through once the arms fold away.

Why it suits a big-stand home

Eldoraigne’s older, larger stands tend to have generous patios and entertainment areas built for exactly this kind of use. An awning turns a baking north- or west-facing patio back into a usable room for most of the year, at a projection class of roughly 3–4m over wide spans, in solution-dyed acrylic fabrics that hold their colour under South African UV.

The wind-sensor argument

Motor plus wind sensor is the responsible spec, not an optional extra. An awning caught open in a highveld thunderstorm gust can be destroyed in minutes — auto-retract protects the investment before you even know a storm has rolled in. A crank-handle option exists for anyone who’d rather operate it manually, but on an exposed or unattended patio, motorised with a sensor is the honest recommendation.

Being straight about limits

An awning is a shade product, not a rain product — it copes with light drizzle at a pitch, never storm rain or standing water. Wind ratings are real limits, not suggestions, and the fixing substrate (brick, timber or steel) needs an on-site assessment before anything is quoted. Full-cassette models seal the fabric and arms away completely when retracted, which we’d recommend for any more exposed position.
